Hawaii’s business, education, government and military can potentially save 1/2 billion dollars per year based on energy cost trends and the potential savings of the whole suite of Green IT solutions.
Here are some figures based on a 10 billion dollar a year oil bill that Hawaii will soon be paying to foreign companies and countries. Green IT here covers the following categories:
| IT (power management, virtualization, cloud computing) | $300,000,000 |
| Telepresence – online training, conferencing, helpdesk) | $51,994,200 |
| Telecommute (working at home or satellite office) | $100,000,000 |
| Web Services – Eccomerce (Reduced transport,retail space) | $50,000,000 |

This is a staggering amount of savings achieved through the full spectrum of Green IT practices by all of Hawaii.
Every practice is mature, has been implemented for years in other places, and is beginning to be practiced here in Hawaii.
It is a matter of education to the trememdous business and social incentives and the will to implement them now rather than later.
In the area of energy, later is too late.
